The Connecticut River originates somewhere in Canada (what doesn't?), and meanders through Pittsburgh, St. Johnsbury, Hanover, Brattleboro, Greenfield, Northampton, Springfield, Harftford, Middletown and Old Saybrook before emptying into the Long Island Sound. As rivers go, it's a good one. It has been cleaned up in recent years, and is utilized by swimmers, boaters and fisherman along its length. Once in a while, I would stop along its banks on my drive between Amherst and Northampton and soak up its calm beauty.
