While living in Western Massachusetts, I made many short trips to Brattleboro, Vermont, and environs. The West River, as it flows through Brattleboro, opens up to lake-like proportions, and freezes over in the winter; the river is dotted with ice-fishing shacks. This photo was taken just off Route 5.
